How long is a book with 80000 words?
Using the novel example of 90,000 words, that breaks down to about 320 pages. An 80,000 word non-fiction book works out to about 350 pages.
For most publishers, a book is “novel-length” when it's between 50,000 and 110,000 words. At a writers conference I recently attended, publishing veteran Jane Friedman said 80,000 words is good for most fiction, below 60,000 isn't novel length territory, and above 120,000 is likely too much.
If you write 15 chapters at an average of 4,000 words per chapter, you'll have a solid 60,000-word manuscript.
➡️ A 70,000-90,000-word novel will typically include 15-25 chapters. Each chapter is roughly 3,000 to 5,000 words in length.
For example, if you're writing for genres that have a word count range of 80,000-89,999 words (i.e. Mainstream, Thriller, Horror, Romance, Suspense, Mystery, and Literary) and you want to adhere to the 3,000–5,000 word count range per chapter, then that would probably entail about 16 to 30 chapters.
320 pages = 80,000 words.
A 300-page book word count average is about 90,000 words. However, the word count per page can widely change, depending on the format, amount of dialogue, and even font size.
A 200-page book is about 60,000 words in traditional publishing, assuming you fit 300 words to a page.
Only one book (Order of the Phoenix) topped 200,000 words, but there were two books that came close with more than 190,000 words (Goblet of Fire and Deathly Hallows). When added all together, the Harry Potter books contain 1,084,170 words.
If you're writing your first novel, the general rule of thumb for novel writing is a word count in the 80,000 to 100,000 range. While anything over 40,000 words can fall into the novel category, 50,000 is considered the minimum novel length. Anything over 110,000 words is considered too long for a fiction novel.
How long is a chapter of Harry Potter?
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J. K. Rowling has an average chapter length of right around 4,500 words. Khaled Hosseini's novel The Kite Runner comes in at about 4,200 words per chapter.
Most nonfiction books have between 5 and 20 chapters. Any less than 5 and your chapters may be running long or may contain too many ideas. That said, there are plenty of books with 30 or 40 chapters. And some books, usually with very short chapters, can have 50+.

Typically, a book that is published in paperback format at a length of 300-400 pages will come in between 80,000 and 100,000 words. For adult fiction (especially crime, thrillers, women's fiction, saga and romance), 100,000 words is a good benchmark to aim for.
There are no rules when it comes to chapter length. The important thing is to concentrate on making your chapters fit your story, not on making your story fit your chapters. Many novelists these days prefer chapters that are between 1,500 words—or six book pages— and 8,000 words, or 32 book pages.
A 100-page book would be, then, about 25,000 words; a 150-page book would be roughly 37,500 words.
If it's single spaced then it will be approximately 184 pages and if its double spaced it will be 362 pages. Not only spacing but it also depends upon the font family, font face and font size, and page margin.
For example, the length of a young adult novel ranges from 50,000 to 75,000 words. Most experts agree that a fair rule of thumb to follow is 2,500–5,000 words each chapter. Therefore, a decent starting point for a young adult novel would be between 10 and 26 chapters.
Most novels have between 10 to 12 chapters, but that's not set in stone.
Some will tell you 2,500 words is the average, while others will say that 3,000 to 5,000 word chapters are more likely to be the norm. Most agree that under 1,000 words would be rather short and that over 5,000 might be rather too long. As a general guideline, chapters should be between 3,000 to 5,000 words.
Of course! May we introduce you to J.R.R. Tolkien? And as you can see, it varies, depending on the story. The average chapter word count of these novels falls within the 2,000-5,000 range.
How many words is a 250 page book?
250 pages is 125000 words single-spaced or 62500 words double-spaced.
Memoir Novel – 80,000 words
The most common rule for a memoir is that it should not go more than 80,000 words. A 40,000 to 80,000-word memoir is around 150-265 pages, a standard book-length for the genre.
85,000 words is 170 pages single-spaced or 340 pages double-spaced. Typical documents that are 85,000 words or more include full-length novels. It will take approximately 283 minutes to read 85,000 words.
As mentioned above, the average chapter length varies by genre, author, and subject matter. However, it's common for both nonfiction and fiction books to average around the same amount of words per chapter: 3,000 to 4,000.
Many novelists these days prefer chapters that are between 1,500 words—or six book pages— and 8,000 words, or 32 book pages. But, there are hundreds of famous exceptions. Donna Tartt's (624-page) novel The Little Friend has only six chapters, ranging in length from 52 to 166 pages.
A la recherche du temps perdu by Marcel Proust contains an estimated 9,609,000 characters (each letter counts as one character. Spaces are also counted, as one character each).
Typical documents that are 1,000,000 words or more include full-length novels. It will take approximately 3,333 minutes to read 1,000,000 words. A 1,000,000 word count will create about 2000 pages with single spacing or 4000 pages double-spaced when using normal 1-inch margins, 12 pt.
In general, the Safe Zone for adult fiction is 70,000-100,000, and the Safe Zone for adult nonfiction is 60,000-90,000 words. Less than that and your book is probably too short.
Is 200 pages too short for a novel?
The general consensus, however, is that a novel should be at least 50,000 words long, is approximately 200 pages. This means that 200 pages is a sufficient length for a novel.
Many lesser known or unpublished writers who blog claim word counts anywhere in the range of 500 to 3000 words a day with 1000 being the average. A few writers claim to produce between 4000 and 10,000 words per day.
How Many Words in a Novel? Average novel word counts are generally around 85,000 but they can range from 50,000 to 120,000. Sometimes they're shorter — The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, The Great Gatsby by F.
Most novels have between 10 to 12 chapters, but that's not set in stone. You can have two chapters or 200 -- it all depends on how comfortable you are with experimenting. Consider your dear reader.
